On the subject of the lower-than-expected price, Microsoft GM of Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg said, “Our goal is to build a long-term relationship with the State of Decay community and to foster deeper experiences with the franchise. We believe State of Decay 2 accomplishes this goal by immersing fans in the ultimate zombie survival fantasy, and we want to give more players the opportunity to join in and experience this unique game.”

The aforementioned Ultimate Edition will include early access to State of Decay 2 on May 18 and a free Xbox One copy of State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition as well as the Independence Pack and Daybreak Pack DLCs, which will be released at a TBD date.
State of Decay 2 is the long-anticipated sequel to the surprise multi-million-selling zombie apocalypse sim that debuted on Xbox Live Arcade in June 2013. The sequel was unveiled at E3 2016 and runs on Unreal Engine 4, replacing the original game’s CryEngine. It promises four-player co-op multiplayer, which IGN will show off – along with much, much more – all month long. It’s all part of IGN First, our monthly editorial initiative where we dive deep into a game we’re excited about.
