Do not Waste the Space in Your Home

Living in a small flat, like I do, can often lead to a lack of space to store important items. Through time we build up a large assortment of items, from computer games to large winter coats you no longer wear those shoes you should have never bought, and finding a place to keep these things can be tricky.

Putting these items into storage often looks like the logical step to take, however the first question to ask yourself is the storage costs?

You've already paid good money to buy these items, why now pay more to keep them?

Even if you live in a small flat, it's important to maximize the space available to you and make the most of it. Why leave your old jackets and coats in your closet – taking up unnecessary room – when you can store them in a cardboard box and tuck them away under your bed?

Why not trade in your computer for a laptop?

Many people dispose of their moving boxes once they have switched apartments but keeping them can be beneficial to space saving. They can be used as storage boxes for your shoes and other small items which can then be taken away and concealed.

The arrangement of your rooms also plays a large role in how you can maximize the space available to you. Too often I've seen people place their beds in a position in their bedroom that takes up half of the space available. Moving your bed against a wall, especially under a window, will not only give you slightly more room but will also have the added benefit of fresh air directly above you whenever you open your windows.

Placing large items such as television sets and couch's against walls, leaving more open room, will also give you more space. You can still have the television facing the couch, allowing you to enjoy your movie nights and football games as usual, with more space in your living room to breathe.

If there's one thing living in a small apartment has shown me, it's that creativity is at the art of interior design. You do not have to sacrifice space to make your flat look good, you just have to be more creative in the way you position items, particularly larger parts.

And by keeping smaller items packed away in your old moving boxes or storage boxes, you can avoid clutter taking up unnecessary space.

So, go on and try it out for yourself. Re-work the layout of your rooms and give yourself space to properly celebrate those Champions League goals.
