When you log into a system, a username and password request is made and this is a standard procedure. The username and password details are stored in the system details and it has to retrieve them during the login process to complete the login procedure. However, certain system malfunctions can prevent this procedure from being carried through.
One problem that can occur is when the login dialog box is set to ‘Guest’. The box appears in grey color and you are unable to change the username. No password can be used and only files that are owned by the guest can be accessed. One solution to this is removing all logs in occurrence for the user or turn of the file sharing process.
If you have forgotten the password for your user name, you would have to reset a new password for the account. Here is a look at the procedure on how to do this:
The Ctrl”, “Alt” and “Delete” keys must be pressed and held in their place twice, when the Windows Login Screen appears. Now, you need to type out ‘Administrator’ in the ‘Username’ field, but the Password field must be left blank. You can now enter into the system in a normal manner and alter the password. Click the “User Accounts” icon in the Control Panel and select the “Change an Account”, in the user accounts windows. This gives you a listing of all usernames.
Select your username and change to a new password. Though the primary action you will be performing here is to alter the user’s password this page can also be used to alter the user’s account type and picture. Now you can restart the system to activate the password for your username. The login screen will appear where you can type out your username and also the password.
