Major Components of an Automobile

With the improvement of the technology, cars have been developed into various new models. Most of the modern cars incorporate the latest technology into efficient, sleek packages and so on. Although in order to meet the challenge in the present automobile market, many cars are designed with various new parts. However, those major parts of an automobile have remained essentially unchanged.

Undoubtedly, the electrical system is one of the major parts. We all know that there are many parts which have close relationship with the electricity such as the generators (alternators) and the electric fans. At first, the system is not very convenient. Due to the advances in technology, it is developed into more convenient type. The starter motors and batteries are added to start the car and alternators to keep the battery charged. Besides, the electric fans are also used for heating as well as cooling. And after a complete transformation, the GPS system is also applied to achieve the optimum performance.

The second main part is the control system. When mentioning this, most of you may think of the steering wheel, accelerator pedal and brakes. In addition to these, there is a suspension which is also very important. It is a series of levers and springs that permit the wheels to move independently of the frame. It can also improve handling during braking, accelerating and cornering.

Frame and body is the most basic component of the car. The frame is sometimes also called the chassis which can provide a rigid platform upon which to mount everything else. Nowadays, most automobiles have a unibody frame in which parts of the body are welded to the frame to enhance strength and rigidity. As to the body, it sits atop the frame and includes the roof, doors, hood, windows and body panels. Moreover, it can keep out exterior noise and the heat and cold.

Except for the above parts, we should also pay attention to the drive train which includes an engine that can burn fuel or might be electric. The transmission which allows the engine to operate in its most efficient range is connected to the output shaft of the engine. It has different operation when applied in different wheel drive cars. For instance, in rear-wheel drive cars, the transmission is connected to the reduction gear via the drive shaft. While in front-wheel drive cars, it is directly connected. And the power is sent through a differential.

All of them are the basic and main parts of an automobile. Therefore, they are indispensable components for cars. We must try to learn something about them to know more about the automobile.
