How to Fix Programs That Take a Long Time to Load

It's annoying and frustrating when programs take a long time to load. This is a problem which even the most advanced computers can have, and is one which is actually very easy to fix if you know how. This tutorial will show you a simple way to boost program load speed.

The first thing you need to do to speed up programs' load speed is to close down any other program that your PC is running. You can do this by pressing CTRL + ALT + DELETE on your keyboard, clicking on the "Processes" tab and then on the various processes that are running on your system. You should remove any of the ones you do not want / need by clicking the "End Process" button. This will allow your computer to "focus" on the program you want to load, which will boost its speed.

After you've done that, you might want to turn off your Antivirus or Firewall for a short period, just to let the program load up. This is because firewalls and antivirus programs take a lot of system resources, which will just increase the time it takes for your programs to load up. If you're not comfortable with this step then you do not need to do it – but if you run a program such as Norton 360 or Kaspersky, then it might be worth just shutting them down while your program loads up.

When you've done those steps, you should try the program again. If it does not load quickly this time, then you might want to think about reinstalling it. If the problem is just with one specific piece of software, then you'll probably have a series of corrupt or damaged program files inside it. To fix this, you just need to reinstall the software, which will replace all the damaged and corrupted files that could be making it load up slower. To reinstall the program, you should click Start> Control Panel> Add / Remove Programs and then remove the software you do not want. This will remove the program, and you should replace it by reinstalling it.

If that does not work, or you're seeing problems with all of your programs, then it might be something to do with the 'registry' of your PC. Often, computer programs will take longer to load up as they have a series of corrupt and damaged settings inside the registry database. These settings are vital for the smooth operation of all your software, and it's often the case that many of these vital settings get corrupted. Fortunately, you can fix this with a 'registry cleaner' which is a software tool that will scan through the registry database and fix any of the damaged or corrupted settings that could have slowed your system down. This should be tried if all of your programs load slow or the other advice Iave does not work.
