How To Fix the Can’t Equip Weapons Bug in Sea of Thieves
Though there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to why some players can’t equip weapons or items in Sea of Thieves, it seems like the problem at least dates back to one of the game’s earlier beta tests. The bug works like this: as soon as some players load the game, they’ll find that everything is essentially in order, except they can’t actually use any of the items or weapons clearly still sitting in their inventories. Most often, bananas and cannonballs can still be used, but swords, guns, and even the cup or compass can’t be used at all.
The solution, if indeed there is a clear solution, seems to be simple: just jump into the water and drown or otherwise find a way to be killed in-game. Some players report success simply by completely closing the game and joining back in, but from what can be told, in-game suicide will work as an effective trigger to reactivate the option for players to use weapons and items.
As far as bugs and errors go, being unable to use weapons or items is kind of a doozy. However, big as the issue may seem, it doesn’t look to have been addressed over on the Sea of Thieves support website. As such, we can only assume that the issue is less prevalent than it appears, or that players have been able to get around the bug by using the aforementioned advice.
