Addons are installed additions to Mozilla founded projects. Addons enable the user to add external applications, use themes of his choice and also view and manage new content. Addons may also be used for funny, silly and satirical applications. The addon installation is monitored by a mechanism that also makes use of the metadata present in addon files. These files help in recognizing the minimum and maximum versions of the Mozilla Firefox and in determining which addons can be used.
If we try to include an addon that is beyond the range of our version it might be installed but will be disabled and so there before it will not be of any actual use to us. Some Firefox addons are known to work beyond their compatibility range and some users install the higher version compatible addons in their less versions by editing the metadata present in the addon files. Software's like Nightly tester extension are also available which make it possible to even override the compatibility check. But it should be noted that a successful overriding of the compatibility check may not ensure the proper working of the Firefox add-ons.
Although add-on updates can be done manually there is a Firefox add-on manager that regularly updates the installed add-ons. According to our specification the add-on manager will check for update at Mozilla add-ons or somewhere else in the net. Pages of interest can be saved for reading at a later period using Firefox extensions. It can be described as a staging area for bookmarks.
Firefox is a dream browser for most of the users because it provides umpteen numbers of add-ons that enhance the functionality of the browser and thereby increase the productivity.
Firefox add-ons allow one click bookmarking, saving, sorting and tagging. By simply clicking on the Read it later check-mark you can immediately save the current page for reading at some other time. Users can tag the items in the reading list by clicking on the star next to the red check mark. Users can also sort the reading list by date, time, size and type. You can mass mark the items to un-check them from the list.
A user can sync his reading list to any number of computers by assigning a unique feed id and password using Firefox add-ons. Personalized RSS feeds enable the user to access the reading list from any place and any device. A user can translate a given Read it later list into its native language. Work offline add-on enables the user to read the specified pages when he is offline like when he is traveling in a plane or a train. There are so many Firefox add-ons available but it is not possible to explain each and every one of them as it would take eons to do such a task. So my advice to the readers is to try them on their own and install Firefox add-ons according to their specifications and requirements.
