Productivity Add-Ons For Mozilla Firefox Browser on Windows

Recently, I wrote an article about important Firefox add-ons you can use that can help protect your computer from viruses, spyware, Trojans and ad-ware and now I want to write about add-ons that can increase your productivity on the Internet. These add-ons can save you time while browsing or doing other important things on your computer; and it's all done through Firefox. For those that still use Internet Explorer, I encourage you to give Firefox a try. Why? It's faster, safer and you can customize the way it looks! So, let's move onward to the add-ons that can increase your productivity in Firefox.

  1. Similar Web

Everyone uses Google to search; but, what if you need a particular search – say … if you are searching for a website that's similar to, Flickr. Then you could give Similar Web a try. Similar web is an add-on that you activate as a sidebar in Firefox. What it does is search the web for sites similar to what you are on. So, I used the example of Flickr – It could search for webshots, snapixel, Photobucket, deviantart or another similar site. This is a great add-on to have and can save you lots of time, rather than using Google to find alternative websites.

  2. Sxipper

Sxipper is an add-on similar to Roborm, which fills in forms and your login information for you. You just put in your info, such as name, address or if you feel safe enough, your credit card information. That way, when you are at a long form to fill out, for example, for doing online shopping, it can fill in the form in just a couple seconds for you. Not even a couple seconds, it's like a flash of lighting, that's how fast it fills in the forms. And guess what? It's absolutely free! Where as Roboform cost $ 29 for one license. Sxipper has saved me countless hours filling out forms on the Internet!

  3. Fast Dial

Fast Dial is a plugin that can either open in a new tab or you can have it open as your home page. What I like about this plugin, is that you can assign your favorite websites to it and just click on the site to have it open. It has many features, such as adding a folder and inside of the folder you can add your bookmark. It's just like your "bookmarks" except it's right there; in front of your screen; inside Firefox! You can also customize the colors or add a background to it.

  4. Auto Copy

Auto Copy does just as it says, it auto copies (almost any) text you highlight. This can come in handy when you want to create links – just highlight the link and voila! The link is automatically copied and all you have to do is paste it. It's as simple as that! Note: This may not work while using a text editor (such as the editor I'm using to type this),

  5. Fire FTP

You may not think this can save you time; but this little piece of software (that runs alongside Firefox) is actually pretty good, it's free as well! It's very fast on opening, light on resources and easy to add your hostname and login info to access your server. I prefer this over Dreamweaver and Filezilla.

  6. IE Tab

Lastly, I'd like to mention IE Tab. What this does is give you the option to open any website you want, with the Internet explorer engine, right inside of Firefox! No more wasting precious seconds or minutes trying to browse a Website with Internet explorer! Using the IE tab inside Firefox makes browsing the website much faster and it's simple to activate. Just right click on the tab in Firefox, and select "switch rendering engine" and the Website will reload with the IE engine; or you an switch back to Firefox engine by doing the same thing you did to get the IE engine. That might sound a bit confusing? But once you download it I think you might understand it better.

  7. Skip Screen

Ok, I promise this is the last Firefox add-on I will mention in this article. But, this is quite important as it can save you between 30-60 seconds of your time. How does it do this? Skip Screen is an add-on that skips unnecessary pages on sites like Rapidshare, Mega Upload, Zshare, MediaFire and more. What that's basically saying is that, you can actually skip the countdown page to get directly to the download or video page. See, free websites that offer downloading will make you sit and watch a countdown, anywhere from 30-60 seconds is typical. Then, once the countdown is done, you can freely download or watch a video. It's highly annoying and Skip Screen takes that "annoyance" off the Website. I recommend this to anyone who does a lot of downloading or watching shows online.
